Project Overview

The Republican Post is a student-run campus newspaper. The Republican Post feature news and lifestyle stories, photographs and videos done largely by students from Republic Polytechnic's CEC’s Diploma in Mass Communication programme.

As a (deputy/visual) photo editor, I am tasked to curate photos and ensure information tagged to each photo are accurate (title, facts, caption, credits). I am also able to pitch angles for photo essays or propose photo opportunities.

 

What I learned

I learn how a news publication run on a small scale, and get exposed to the procedures of a newsroom. Jargons such as sked, editorials, op-eds become clearer and I learn to point out news values in articles. I am also able to practise captioning

 

On the technical level, I learn more photoshop tools and actions to optimize photos for print and online
